ROSEN METHOD
What is the Rosen Method?
Rosen Method focuses on reconnecting with our deeper self through relaxation and self-awareness. Throughout our life we encounter stress which makes our muscles contract and hold to support us handling that which is challenging or difficult for us. Sometimes we are unable to resolve these painful or difficult experiences and therefore not able to fully relax our muscles. The ongoing stress may then remain in our body in the form of chronic muscular tension. As time passes this tension may continue without any relief or only temporary relief. Over time, the chronic tension can become unconscious. Rosen Method is focused on bringing awareness to the unconscious tension so that we can begin to experience a deeper sense of physical and emotional relaxation. Rosen Method creates openings and possibilities not consciously available before.
Rosen Method is a gentle, yet powerful form of touch. The practitioner uses direct and non manipulative touch to connect with the chronic tension in the client’s muscles. In this work the practitioner focuses on the chronic muscle tension, the emotions and the breath. The practitioner’s intention is to make a connection through touch that invites and allows the client to experience exactly what is happening in his/her body without attempting to change or fix anything. This is an invitation to simply be fully in one’s own experience.
The practitioner follows the client’s process by watching the breath and reflecting to the client what he/she observes. The breath reflects the emotional state of the client. When subtle shifts and changes occur in the client’s body, the practitioner recognizes these as indicators that the client is deepening his/her awareness of the internal process taking place. At this point the verbal dialogue often is a response to what is happening in the client’s body experience.
As relaxation occurs and the breath deepens and moves more freely, unconscious feelings, attitudes and memories may emerge. The practitioner responds with touch and words that allow the client to recognize more fully what has been unconsciously held within the body through the muscle tension. As this process unfolds, habitually tight muscles relax and old patterns of holding in the client’s body may be released, empowering the client to experience more aliveness and the possibility of more choices in life and a greater sense of well-being.
